June 2007
MDDA
community media and small commercial media projects
Dear
All
RE
: 2007 Enablis Business Plan Competition.
The
Agency has signed a partnership agreement with
ENABLIS in respect of their National Business
Plan Competition.
This
was approved by the Board and the competition
was launched on 23 May 2007. The MDDA is now one
of the funding partners
and the Chair of the panel on the media category
judging panel.
Enablis
and MDDA are working closely to get information
on the competition out to all MDDA-supported projects,
companies and
organizations. The purpose of this communication
is to inform you about the partnership between
Enablis and MDDA and to
encourage you to consider entering the competition
in the media category.
The
call for entries period now runs until the end
August. During this time, business plan training
workshops are held in all provinces.
A full listing of these workshops can be found
on www.enabliscompetition.co.za.
You are strongly encouraged to attend these training
workshops.
Once
entries for the competition close on August
31 2007, the business plans in the media category
will be divided into business ideas
(start-up funding) on the one hand and existing
businesses (expansion funding) on the other. A
team of business plan evaluators will
assess these plans and select 3 x business ideas
and 3 x existing businesses as the 6 category
finalists. In September, the MDDA will
have the opportunity to review and adjust this
selection to ensure that emerging businesses are
prioritised. These six finalists
then attend the final judging event in mid October
in Johannesburg.
The
panel will see the “live” presentations
from the entrants and will then select two winners:
one start-up and one existing business.
The
following day the winners will be announced. Following
this, the winners are handed over to the funding
team who start working
with the entrepreneurs on accessing the funding.
They also receive their prizes, which include
laptops, a business library, a
stationery kit and IT training, Sunday Times subscription,
etc. In November, Business Times will publish
a special supplement profiling the winners.
This
relationship between MDDA and Enablis provides
an opportunity for our projects, i.e. small commercial
media and maybe
community media, to be part of an opportunity
to improve their business plan and therefore grow
their business.
You
are therefore invited to join the different workshops
organized by ENABLIS in your respective province
and also to consider
submitting your entry for consideration.
Regards
