to participate in Highway Africa Conference!
Issued by: MDDA
The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA)
will participate in this year's Highway Africa
Conference taking place at Rhodes University,
Grahamstown, South Africa.
Mr Lumko Mtimde, Chief Executive Officer of
the MDDA will lead the MDDA team and also participate
in two activities; on Monday 8th at 14:30, a
Roundtable on Media Funding and Sustainability
at Eden Grove Red and on Tuesday 9th at 09:00
he will chair a panel discussion on Capacitating
Media and Citizens in Africa at Eden Grove Blue.
Mr Mtimde will also be available for pre-booked
interviews.
As
from Monday 8th to Thursday 11th September,
MDDA will have an exhibition stand, which will
provide literature with background information
about the Agency and its role in promoting media
development and diversity within the media landscape
in South Africa. There will also be MDDA staff
members that will take prospective community
projects through the process of applying for
grant funding for community and small commercial
media projects through the MDDA.
As
per the objectives in the MDDA Act in particular
section 3 (ii) which require the Agency to encourage
the development of human resources and training,
and capacity building, within the media industry,
especially amongst historically disadvantaged
groups, MDDA will sponsor 40 delegates, drawn
from its pool of existing community media and
small commercial media projects from all nine
provinces, to attend the conference for three
days.
During
the three days, MDDA supported media projects
delegates will get an opportunity to network
with other conference delegates from established
media houses locally as well as the rest of
Africa.
A
not-to-be-missed MDDA Skills Workshop, aimed
at MDDA supported projects, “Using Campcaster”,
will be conducted by Douglas Arallenes, on Monday
8th at Union Lab from 11-13:00. The MDDA supports
the opportunity available at Highway Africa
for debating journalism and the new media. Highway
Africa also provides a platform for us to reflect
on the development and diversity of media in
South Africa, including sharing ideas regarding
media funding and sustainability.
