Ms Nadia Bulbulia




NADIA BULBULIA - PROFILE

Nadia Bulbulia has been in the ICT sector since 1994. She has held executive roles in the telecoms industry and has been immersed in the regulation of broadcasting since 1994. She served as a Councillor at both ICASA and its predecessor, the IBA. She joined the IBA shortly after it was formed in 1994 and worked on key processes including the Triple Inquiry Report, licensing of community and commercial broadcasters and content regulations. During her time at ICASA she served on Council committees charged with the review of media ownership and control, the re-licensing of the SABC, the development of subscription broadcasting regulations, telecoms licensing and mobile number portability. Her Masters degree was on public television policy aimed at children, and her Honours degree is in Dramatic Art (Wits University). She has an Associate and Licentiate Teacher’s Diploma through the Trinity College of London and trained in International Relations and Diplomatic Practice at Clingendael Institute (Netherlands). She was a Council member of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and served briefly on the SABC Board.

In the financial year 2008/9, the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) an Agency established by the MDDA Act No. 14 of 2002 in partnership with the major print and broadcast media industry to create, support, promote and encourage an enabling environment for media development and diversity that is conducive to public discourse and which reflects the needs and aspirations of all South Africans, commissioned Z-Coms to conduct research on the trends in ownership and control of media in South Africa. 3 Aug 2009
