  • The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) have appointed Advocate Menischia Natalie Du Plessis as Company Secretary, strengthening the Agency’s governance, compliance, and accountability frameworks in line with its mandate under the MDDA Act

    Advocate Du Plessis is an admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and a distinguished member of several professional bodies, including the Compliance Institute of South Africa (CISA), the Risk Management Institute of South Africa (RMISA), and the Institute of Directors in South Africa (IODSA).

    Furthermore, Advocate Du Plessis holds a BA (Law) and LLB from the University of the Western Cape, along with postgraduate qualifications in Compliance Management and in Legal Practice (University of Cape Town), professional courses in Ethics and Corporate Governance (University of Pretoria) and in Finance, Leadership Entrepreneurship & Innovation (University of the Western Cape).

    With over 20 years of experience across corporate, legal, and compliance sectors, Advocate Du Plessis has built a distinguished record in legal advisory, compliance, corporate governance, and company secretarial services.

    Established under the MDDA Act (Act No. 14 of 2002), the MDDA promotes a diverse, sustainable, and inclusive media sector that gives voice to all South Africans, particularly those from historically disadvantaged communities. The appointment of a Company Secretary of Advocate Du Plessis’s calibre affirms the Agency’s dedication to strong governance, institutional integrity, and effective delivery of its developmental objectives.

    Chairperson of the MDDA Board, Prof. Hlengani Mathebula said, “Advocate Du Plessis’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the Agency as it reimagines itself within a rapidly evolving media landscape shaped by technological change. Her depth of experience will be instrumental in strengthening governance reinforcing accountability and advancing the MDDA’s mandate to transform and diversify South Africa’s media sector.”
